Welcome! I’m Kirsten – mama of two; wife to J, the Handsome Fixer Man; sometimes yogi and beginner homesteader.
In 2015, we sold our house in Baltimore, packed our things, and moved to the New England countryside. Two Birds in the Rafters is a chronicle of our adventures in simple living and mini-homesteading on seven acres in the lakes region of central Maine.
We do work “off farm.” J is a registered nurse, currently working in the Critical Care Unit of the area’s largest hospital. I’m now home fulltime, homeschooling and homesteading. In my past life, most of my career was in higher education, beginning in Admissions for my alma mater, spending a year with a technical membership organization and then moving to Development and Alumni Relations, eventually working as a fundraiser for medical research, and then with a women’s membership organization. I hold a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Lycoming College and a master’s degree in liberal arts from Johns Hopkins University.
My dream job is to raise chickens, homeschool my children, and knit wonderful things – so I’m mostly there (still working on that knitting part).
Thanks for joining us!
